Altus Tasks

Google

(Limited Use).

The use of raw or derived user data received from Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Privacy Policy

Altus Tasks is a task and daily planning app. This page explains what data the app touches, where it goes, and what does not happen to it.

In short: There is no sign-up and no user account. Your tasks, goals and notes are stored only in your browser on your own device — not on our servers. We do not sell data, show ads, or build profiles.

What we store, and where

Data that stays on your device

The following is kept in your browser's local storage and is never sent to any server:

In practice: if you clear your browsing data or switch devices, this data does not follow you. That is why the app includes an export button that saves your data to a file you keep.

Data sent to third-party services

Only in the following cases, and only when you initiate them:

AI features

When you ask the app to break down a task, suggest goals, or write a short informational piece, the text you wrote is sent to Google Gemini through an intermediary server function in order to generate a response. The text is not retained on our servers after the response is returned. Use of that service is subject to Google's privacy policy.

If you do not use these features, no text is sent.

Importing a shift schedule from a screenshot

What is sent: in this feature you choose a screenshot of your work schedule yourself and type your name as it appears in the table. The entire image, together with the name you typed, is sent to Google Gemini through the same intermediary server so that its contents can be read. This happens only when you trigger it, never automatically.

Other people's details: a work schedule often contains other employees' names and their working hours. The image is sent in full, so other employees' names and hours are sent to Google too. They cannot be removed beforehand, for the simple reason that removing a name from an image requires reading the image first. Before the first use, the app shows an explicit explanation of this and asks for your confirmation.

What is stored on your device: from the response, the app keeps only the date, start time and end time of each shift you approve, saved as a task titled "Shift". Everything else in the response is discarded. In addition, the service is explicitly instructed to return only your own row, to ignore other people's rows and to mention no other name. A short summary sentence returned by the service is shown on screen and not stored. Other employees' names are not stored on your device.

Your name: the name you typed is stored on your device with your other preferences, so you don't have to type it next time. It is also included in the backup file, if you export one. You can change or delete it at any time in the import window.

The image: the image itself is not stored — not on our servers and not on the device — and it is discarded from memory when the window closes. The intermediary server does not keep the image or the name after the response is returned.

If you prefer not to send other people's details, you can crop the screenshot before uploading and leave only the header row and your own row.

Reading aloud

When you press the read-aloud button on the informational article or the encouraging message, its text is sent through our intermediary server to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, which returns an audio file. The text is not stored on our servers.

If you don't press read-aloud, no text is sent to this service.

Voice input (dictation)

The app includes a dictation button that uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. When you press it, the browser asks you for microphone permission.

Please note: in most browsers (such as Chrome and Edge) the audio is sent to the browser vendor's servers for transcription rather than processed on your device, and its handling is subject to that vendor's privacy policy. Altus Tasks itself does not record, store or send any audio to its own servers — it receives only the transcribed text from the browser.

If you do not use dictation, the microphone is never accessed.

Google Calendar connection

This connection is entirely optional and the app works fully without it.

  • We request read-only access (calendar.readonly). The app cannot create, edit or delete events in your calendar.
  • Events are fetched directly from Google to your browser. They do not pass through, and are not stored on, our servers.
  • We display events from today up to two weeks ahead, so you can import them into your schedule in the app.
  • Access tokens are stored in your browser's local storage, like the rest of your data.
  • You can disconnect at any time — from the "Disconnect" button in the app, or via your Google Account settings.

How calendar data is used — and how it is not

Calendar data received from Google is used for one purpose only: to display your events inside the app and let you import them into your daily schedule. It has no other use.

Specifically, your Google Calendar data is:

Calendar events and AI features

An event imported from your calendar becomes an ordinary task in the app. If you choose to use an AI feature on that task — for example "break into steps" or the chat with Cloudy — the task title, including a title that originated from a calendar event, is sent to Google Gemini in order to generate the response. This happens only when you actively trigger it, never automatically.

What is sent is the task title, time, duration and priority level only. Other calendar details — attendees, location, event description, links — are not sent.

We use the Gemini API on the Paid Tier. Under Google's terms of service, content submitted on the paid tier is not used to improve Google's products and is not used to train models. We do not use the free tier.

If you do not use the AI features, nothing from your calendar is sent anywhere.

Limited Use commitment: Altus Tasks' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

The use of raw or derived user data received from Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What we do not do

Hosting and security

The site is hosted on Vercel and served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). As with any web host, Vercel retains short-lived technical server logs including IP address and browser type, used solely for operations and security.

Fonts on this site are loaded from Google Fonts. As with any external resource, Google's servers see the visitor's IP address as part of that request. We do not use this for identification or tracking. Font loading is unrelated to the calendar connection and involves no access to any Google user data.

Because your data lives on your device, its security also depends on the security of that device and browser. We recommend against using the app on a shared public machine.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Because the data is stored on your device, you control it: you can export it to a file, delete it by clearing site data in your browser, and disconnect the calendar at any time. For any question or request, contact us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of the page. A material change in how data is handled will also be surfaced inside the app.
